FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Schickel Design Company is creating a dynamic mural and stained glass to enliven the new Bethesda Medical Center at Arrow Springs on Ohio 48 in Lebanon.
Working closely with leadership at TriHealth, the Schickel Design Company produced a 126 square foot painted canvas mural and 650 square feet of stained glass. These major architectural art pieces provide a colorful, exciting counterpoint to the spaciousness and simplicity of the new building, and visitors and employees will find the public spaces enriched and welcoming when the new Medical Center opens later this month.
Martha Schickel Dorff AIA of Schickel Design worked with Barry Burdick of URS, the architect for the project, and Sister Agnes Coveney, Vesta Johns, Will Groneman, Claus Von Zychlin and Ken Knight of TriHealth.
The three stained glass installations and mural create an environment of comfort, hope and joy.
The Emergency Room entrance is brightened by an abstract stained glass window in tones of yellow, gold and red, centered around the biblical quotation “Come to me all you weary and I will give you rest.” These words are lettered right into the piece and the colors are visible from Ohio 48 at night providing a beacon of comfort and reassurance.
In the Main Entrance atrium on the north side of the Center, the 8’x18’ stained glass window reflects the idea of water as a healing and renewing element in the gift of creation. This ties into the Methodist roots of the Center and the Gospel story of Jesus healing the man at the pool of Bethesda.
This connection is strengthened in the lobby by the large mural depicting Jesus healing the man at the pool of Bethesda.
The lobby continues to the south window wall overlooking a lake. This window features a diagonal 3-foot wide ribbon of stained glass rising up and across for 88 feet. There, it terminates in a dramatic colorful burst of hope and courage.
Schickel Design Company builds value through design excellence. This second-generation family company specializes in the integration of art and architecture.
Bethesda Arrow Springs will open for business Monday, April 24th.
