STAINED GLASS AND SCULPTURE CREATE DYNAMIC IDENTITY FOR HISTORIC CINCINNATI HOSPITAL
SCHICKEL DESIGN CREATES LOBBY ART FOR GOOD SAMARITAN
The new Dixmyth patient tower at Good Samaritan was dedicated today. The festive occasion was attended by Mayor Mallory and members of council Chris Monzel,Laketa Cole, Jim Tarbell and David Crowley as well as First District United States House Representative Steve Chabot.
The identity and mission of Good Samaritan Hospital is brought to life in the new building, with Stained Glass, Sculpture, Murals and Paintings by Schickel Design Company under the leadership of Martha Schickel Dorff AIA
The new Entrance features a 68 foot long dancing ribbon of stained glass that creates a lively sense of warmth and welcome and frames a large folded aluminum sculpture called “Compassion”. The sculpture represents the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan and shows a person reaching out to help someone in need. The dynamic, flowing design of the stained glass is especially striking when backlit by the lobby lights at night.
The stained glass becomes a part of the interior design of the Dixmyth Lobby when viewed from inside the space. The Lobby also features a large 50’ by 12’ overhead mural in rich, vibrant tones that is based on the quote from Scripture, “The Lord will watch over your coming and your going.” The design of the interior is enhanced and unified by large abstract paintings in vibrant but muted colors which hang on the side walls of the lobby.
Schickel Design Company builds value through design excellence. This second-generation family company specializes in the integration of art and architecture. Their work can be seen locally at several locations, including “Main Street” at Good Samaritan Hospital, Chapel of The Holy Child at Children’s Hospital, and Chapel of Mercy at the corporate headquarters of Mercy Health Partners in Blue Ash.
