FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Martha S. Dorff AIA and Schickel Design Company of Cincinnati, OH announce completion of their ambitious installation at the Chancery Office Building of the Diocese of Orlando, Florida. In this project, Schickel Design Company has realized the artistic expression of the historic and present reality of the work of the Diocese of Orlando as well as its vision for the future, and conveyed in a fresh, attractive way its Catholic identity.

A slender but dramatic 16-foot exterior bronze crucifix conveys the identity and purpose of the building, exerting a powerful presence over the street below and giving a sense of reaching out to all at the intersection of heaven and earth. Stained glass windows worked in similar patterns in different color schemes provide a metaphor for the Holy Trinity while highlighting the large cross above. Four large photo murals installed in various interior locations show the lives and contributions of the current Bishop, Wenski, and his three predecessors. Warm tones, a variety of photos, text and quotations help to identify the men and their work. Images and words of Pope John Paul II at work in the World are dramatically displayed in an 8’ photo mural. Expressive painted portraits of Pope Benedict XVI and Bishop Thomas Wenski hang in the Lobby of the Diocesan Offices. Also in the Lobby, a bronze and wood crucifix features a realistic figure of Christ and cross with symbolic representations of the four Evangelists capping each extension. Beneath the outstretched arms of the figure hang frames with interchangeable panels reflecting the themes of the various seasons of the Liturgical year. This piece represents the Unchanging Christ in a Changing World.

A Dedication of the Chancery Office Building and a Blessing of its offices and religious articles is scheduled for Wednesday, July 25th on site in Orlando. Martha S. Dorff will be traveling to Florida to attend the ceremonies and following reception.
